The Audi Q5 is the first SUV model developed based on the new-generation internal combustion engine architecture, PPC (Premium Platform Combustion). This time, we will compare the Q5 TFSI quattro 150kW, which is equipped with a 2.0-liter inline four-cylinder TSFI gasoline turbo, with the BMW X3 20 xDrive, which has the same power unit configuration.
These two cars are extremely popular in Japan and Europe due to their maneuverability in urban areas. Both models feature exteriors that are instantly recognizable as “Audi” and “BMW.” While the X3 has a single body configuration (the X4 is no longer in production), the Q5 is available in two body styles: SUV and Sportback. In terms of dimensions, the X3 is 40mm longer, 20mm wider, and has a wheelbase of 45mm, making it slightly larger than the Q5. However, in terms of weight, the Q5 is about 90kg heavier.

The Audi Q5 introduces the latest generation cockpit, “Digital Stage,” which combines an 11.9-inch Audi Virtual Cockpit with a 14.5-inch MMI touch display. A 10.9-inch MMI passenger display is also available exclusively for the passenger seat. The X3 boasts a simple and cool interior, centered around the latest generation “BMW Curved Display,” which consists of a 12.3-inch and a 14.9-inch horizontal display.
Both rear seat passenger spaces are spacious enough for three adults to relax in. The luggage capacity is 570L for the X3 (1700L with two occupants) and 520L for the Q5 (1473L with two occupants), with the boxy X3 surpassing the Q5. The equipment and power performance of the two cars are almost the same, but the ride quality is definitely “Audi-like” and “BMW-like.” Why not try driving both cars and choose the one that appeals to you with its “personality”?
