The R35 GT-R has finally reached the end of production

On August 26, 2025, Nissan Motor Co., Ltd. announced the completion of production of the final R35 GT-R at its Tochigi Plant. The current GT-R, a globally popular sports car representing Japan, has finally reached the end of its life. This time, we compare the specs with the Mercedes-AMG GT 63 4MATIC+ Coupe, which is equipped with a multi-cylinder turbo engine and all-wheel drive.

Although the GT-R has dropped the “Skyline” name since the R35, it continues to have the Skyline-like exterior design that has been carried over from the R31. The Mercedes-AMG GT 63 features a Panamericana grille with vertical louvers that highlights AMG, and has a classic long nose and short deck style. While the body size is almost the same, the wheelbase of the GT-R is 80mm longer and the AMG GT 63 is 180kg heavier.

The renowned VR38DETT, a machine that has been perfected over and over again

The GT-R is equipped with Nissan’s proud 3.8-liter V6 “VR38DETT” twin-turbo engine. When it first debuted, maximum output was 480 PS, but after repeated improvements, the standard model now produces 570 PS, and the high-performance “GT-R NISMO” produces 600 PS. The AMG GT 63, equipped with a 4.0-liter V8 twin-turbo engine, produces a maximum output of 585 PS. While the GT-R’s maximum torque is 637 Nm, the larger-displacement AMG GT 63 reaches 800 Nm. The 0-100 km/h acceleration times are the same, and the AMG GT 63’s top speed is 10 km/h faster.

The value of the “GT-R” that has made Nissan history

Although it has been updated over time, the GT-R’s cockpit, with its 7-inch LCD meter and 7-inch center display, feels a little outdated by modern standards. However, the shining “GT-R” logo in the center of the steering wheel will give the driver a special sense of exhilaration.

The Mercedes-AMG GT 63 features a luxurious interior typical of AMG models, with a vertical 11.9-inch center display and chrome accents. The price difference of over 13 million yen is particularly noticeable in the quality of the interior space.

The GT-R, which has made Nissan’s history with a focus on motorsports, has a story that cannot be measured by specs or equipment alone. It is unclear how used car prices will change in the future, but the R35 GT-R, which will likely be the last pure ICE-equipped model, has the potential to far exceed the price of a new car.
