Updated aerodynamics and cooling performance

In September 2025, at the IAA Mobility 2025, Porsche unveiled the new 911 Turbo S, the pinnacle of the 911 series. Based on the latest generation 992.2 model, the 3.6-liter flat-six engine will be fitted with an electric turbocharger, and following the 911 Carrera GTS, it will be equipped with a 400V-based T-Hybrid system. The new model will retain the coupe and cabriolet body configurations.

The previous generation 911 Turbo S, based on the 992.1 model, was released in March 2020. The new 911 Turbo S adds vertical cooling flaps to the front section. Combined with the variable rear wing, this ensures high aerodynamic levels and cooling performance.

The overall length has been extended by 16 mm due to changes to the front and rear bumpers, but the overall width and wheelbase remain unchanged. The vehicle weight has also increased by only 85 kg, despite the addition of a hybrid system including a battery.

Equipped with two E-turbos, it produces a maximum output of 711 PS

The 992.2 911 Turbo S is a 3.6-liter horizontally opposed 6-cylinder engine with an electric turbocharger (e-Turbo). The “T-Hybrid” introduced in the 911 GTS was significantly updated with the introduction of the 911 Turbo S, with the number of e-Turbos increased to two. It delivers a maximum system output of 711 PS and a maximum system torque of 800 Nm.

The maximum output has been improved by 61 PS from the previous 911 Turbo S, earning it the title of the most powerful “production 911” in the history of the 911. Top speed has been reduced from 330 km/h to 322 km/h, but acceleration from 0 to 100 km/h has been improved by 0.2 seconds to 2.5 seconds.

The unstoppable trend towards electrification

The 992.2 cockpit features a 12.65-inch meter panel and a horizontal 10.9-inch touchscreen display in the center. The interior features a special “Turbo Night” color scheme on the door panels, steering wheel, dashboard, center console area, meter panel, seat belts, and center console switches.

The 911 Turbo S has now shifted from a pure ICE (internal combustion engine) model to an electrified version. Thanks to this, it beat the 992.1’s time by more than 14 seconds at the Nürburgring Nordschleife, posting an impressive time of 7 minutes 3.92 seconds. Considering this performance improvement, the nearly 4 million yen price increase seems justified.

Recently, Porsche announced that it would continue to develop and produce ICE engines. However, many of the performance models released in recent years have been equipped with hybrid powertrains, and the trend toward electrification is unlikely to stop. The previous-generation 911 Turbo S, which produces a maximum output of 650 PS using only ICE engines, is likely to be highly sought after in the used car market.
